What is Express Shipping and why does it cost more?  When you need something delivered in less time that it would normally take to get it to you, say in two days versus five, it is expressed.
That means that the normal routine of packing and shipping it along with the rest of the things people are ordering that day is halted and you become a special case.

It may be that your order needs to go by air and special truck rather that by ground to the warehouse and then on a regular route delivery truck. That means more fuel and personnel.  Shipping and handling costs vary in distance and the type of transportation it takes to get what you want delivered. Also, the day of the week may be a factor. Weekends are going to cost you extra because most likely the company will  have to pay someone overtime, whether it is the person packaging it to be shipped or the contracted driver or both.  The Shipping Service has to go outside of the routine standards of operation to get whatever it is you ordered to your door.  They have to pass that cost onto you. That is why it is more expensive to order Express Shipping.
