Supply Chain Procurement

Exactly what does Supply Chain Procurement entail? It is the bones of the entire operation.  Without procurement of raw materials, there would be no product to manufacture, package, ship and sell to the public. It doesn't matter what the supply chain is generating, from toasters to fresh bread, or cattle feed to prime rib, if there is not raw material, there is no product to sell. That means no profit, no business.

But, it's not just the raw material that need to be acquired. The packaging  has to be considered, otherwise how would it , whatever it is, ship?  And every product needs a label, a slogan and a logo of some sort. Otherwise how would you know what was inside the package? How would you know that was what you needed to buy?  That is why the Supply Chain Inventory must be kept up to date and well stocked. All links along the chain will need to procure something, from the essential ingredients to packing labels.

Pretend you are baking a cake. One of the first links is to get a bowl and pour the flour into it. No bowl, you cannot begin the process.  No eggs, and the cake won't turn out well. If the mixers break down, so does the time it takes to blend it all together. And after it is baked and cooled, someone has to invert the pan and plop it out onto something so it can be frosted. All links, interdependent on something in the Supply Chain Procurement that was overseen by a Supply Chain Manager to be make sure it's ready and waiting.
